Chocolate orange! Dark chocolate body with vibrant orange citrus notes and little dried fruit finish. This makes a lovely balanced espresso with enough sweetness and body to punch through larger milk drinks.

Throwback was conceived as a nod to espresso’s past, a simple and traditional blend that offers a balance of rich chocolatey body and fruity aftertaste, without the need for dark roasting or the use of Robusta.

The Spring 2019 edition features washed coffees from El Salvador and Rwanda and three producers we have been working with for a long time.

From El Salvador, we have coffee from three farms- Finca Bonanza owned by Joe Molina and Finca Patagonia alongside its sister farm El Jardin both owned by brothers Christian and Oscar Schapps. We have been buying from all three of these classic Salvadorian estates since 2013 and love their bourbon coffees for their balance and consistency- perfect for an espresso base.

Joe Molina has been growing amazing coffees in the Santa Ana region for decades as well as Bonanza his own farm, Joe took home a first place in the El Salvador Cup of Excellence back in 2004 with Bosque Lya another farm he was managing. Likewise Oscar and Christian have a long history with the Ataco coffee region and inherited Patagonia and Jardin from their Uncle Julio who we originally bought these coffees from before he sadly passed away.

From Rwanda this is our third year working with Agnes Mukamushinja and her washing station Nova. Agnes is relatively new to coffee; the family’s main business is their chain of chemists in the Kigali area but since taking over Nova she has worked closely with RTC our export partners in Rwanda and focused intently on specialty production. Nova now produces ones of the cleanest and juiciest coffees we buy from Rwanda and is a key component of Throwback every year.
